Disney never ceases to make us dream… and this time, the magic is about to light up the shores of Orlando with a new pearl in its tourist empire! In 2027, the Disney Lakeshore Lodge will open its doors in the heart of the Walt Disney World Resort, on the historic site of Disney’s first water park.
The initial project, revealed at the D23 Expo in 2018, was named Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge and was scheduled to open in 2022. However, by the end of 2024, 6 years later, Disney changed the name of the project to Disney Lakeshore Lodge.
The upcoming resort will be the 16th addition to the Disney Vacation Club, which offers timeshare rentals. Situated between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, it will be located on the shores of Bay Lake, close to Magic Kingdom Park.
The new project will be constructed on the previous location of Disney’s River Country, the first water park at Walt Disney World, which opened in 1976. Due to low attendance and competition from other water parks, River Country closed in 2005. The site has been abandoned since then and was eventually demolished to make room for future developments.
